SCOTT’S STORY
Scott first arrived in Sicily in 2007 intending to renovate a single property. What began as a short-term project became a lasting connection with the island and its communities.
Over the years he has worked on numerous restoration projects, advised international clients exploring relocation, and contributed to major television productions documenting the realities of buying and renovating historic homes.
Living and working in Sicily has provided a deep understanding of both the opportunities and challenges involved in restoring buildings, navigating local systems and integrating into community life.
Who We Are
-
The Sicily Project was created to help connect international residents, investors and creative initiatives with the historic communities of Sicily.
Founded by Scott Thompson, the project brings together many years of practical experience in property restoration, project management and media work across the island.
Today, its focus is broader than individual buildings.
It is about supporting long-term vitality in towns where history, culture and architecture continue to shape everyday life.
-
The Sicily Project is grounded in real experience.
Rather than presenting an idealised vision of relocation or investment, its approach is based on practical insight into:
property restoration
town dynamics
local bureaucracy
long-term settlement
realistic development potential
This perspective allows newcomers and communities to engage with change in ways that are thoughtful and sustainable.
-
While property remains an important entry point for many people arriving in Sicily, the long-term goal is wider.
The Sicily Project seeks to contribute to conversations around:
re-population of historic centres
sensitive regeneration
tourism development
creative and cultural initiatives
strengthening local economies
The intention is not to replace local expertise or decision-making, but to help build connections and explore possibilities.
-
Scott’s work has been featured in international television projects focused on restoration and life in southern Europe. These experiences have highlighted growing global interest in Sicily and its towns.
By combining media awareness with practical project experience, The Sicily Project aims to support towns in presenting themselves to wider audiences while remaining authentic to their identity.
-
Sicily’s small towns face complex challenges but also hold remarkable potential.
The Sicily Project continues to evolve as a platform for ideas, collaboration and exploration — helping connect people who wish to build new lives on the island with communities seeking a sustainable future.
